5 Rules For The Selection Of Orthopedic Shoes

We know that sometimes choosing orthopedic shoes for a child can be hard, as you have to consider not just the individual orthopedic issues of your baby but many other important things as well. How can you choose the best orthopedic shoes and be sure that the child feels impeccable comfort? Keep on reading and find it out!
Here are the top-5 factors that you should consider while choosing the right shoes:
1. Material
The material from which the shoes are made has to be stretchable, it should provide free air access and moisture evaporation. These can be natural materials (genuine leather, nubuck, fur) or modern high-technology materials - HTM.
2. Sole
The foot muscles and ligaments don’t work on an even hard surface including a hard sole, thus, the sole should be flexible. The flexibility of the sole can be checked by bending the shoe. The sole should also be non-slippery!
3. Counter
The counter should be solid (without any cutouts) and stiff enough to hold the heel tightly and prevent it from slipping and twisting to the side. Pay attention that the counter has a rounded top and doesn’t cut into the feet' bones.
4. Heel
A small heel is necessary for gait development. Its height should be no more than 5-7 mm.
5. Instep support
For the prevention of flat feet, children's shoes often have instep support, which helps in the development of a normal foot arch. However, this doesn’t mean that the absence of instep support will necessarily result in flat feet. The instep support should be flexible so that it squeezes and straightens under the foot pressure.
